Wool, clay, wood, plaster, wax, emulsion paint
This work featured as part of a group show, shown in A4 Sounds. This hand knit sculpture depicts an embodiment of the term “fite fuaite”, meaning an interconnectedness through materiality. Things inexplicably mixed up.
This work considers visibilty of labour, haptic knowledge and material embodiment as described by the term fite fuaite.
The looping threads that make up the back of the knitted tapestry make visible the haptic, labourious process required to form this piece.
Considering the often neglected role of crafts, such as knitting in contemporary art, their dismisal offers a somewhat subversive quality, linking the material language with that of a minor language, such as irish.
